Why Your Social Media Isn’t Getting Leads, And How to Fix It
You’re posting regularly. You’ve got decent photos. You respond to comments. But the enquiries just aren’t coming. Sound familiar?
The frustrating truth is that posting consistently is not the same as posting strategically. Here are the most common reasons NZ businesses get social media traffic but no leads.
1. You’re Posting Content, Not Offers
There’s a difference between content that builds your brand and content that generates leads. Most NZ businesses only post the first type, pretty photos, behind-the-scenes, motivational quotes, without ever making a clear offer.
Fix it: Every 4–5 posts, publish a direct offer. “We have 2 spots open this month for new clients, here’s how to get started.” Social media rewards consistency, but your bottom line rewards conversion-focused posts.
2. Your Bio and Link Aren’t Doing Any Work
Most people check your bio before they follow or enquire. If it says “Auckland business | DM for info” with a link to your homepage, you’re losing leads every single day.
Fix it: Your bio should state exactly who you help. Your link should go to a landing page, a quote form, booking page, or specific service page, not your homepage.
3. Your Content Has No Clear Call to Action
People need to be told what to do next. Even if they love your post, without a CTA they’ll double-tap and scroll on.
Fix it: End every post with a CTA. “Comment below if you want to know more” or “DM us the word QUOTE for a free chat” are both effective and natural.
4. You’re Not Running Any Ads
Organic social reach in 2026 is 2–5% of your followers per post. If you’re relying only on organic content, you’re fighting with one hand tied behind your back.
Fix it: Even $300–$500/month in targeted Facebook or Instagram ads, pointed at your local NZ audience with the right creative, can dramatically change your lead flow.
5. Your Posting is Inconsistent
The algorithm on every platform rewards consistency. If you post 5 times one week and once the next, your reach tanks and you rebuild from scratch.
Fix it: Commit to a realistic schedule you can maintain, even 3 posts per week instead of 7. Batch-create content monthly so you’re always ahead.
6. Your Content Isn’t Solving a Problem
The highest-performing social media content answers questions your customers are already asking. “How much does X cost in Auckland?”, these perform because they meet people where they are.
Fix it: Write down the 10 questions you get asked most often by clients. Turn each one into a post, Reel, or short video.
